These are the main operational issues:

Security of information.

There are risks posed by by systems failure and malicious attacks.

Details here.

Businesses need up to date anti virus software together with secure login onto IT systems.

Paper documents also need protecting. Details here.

Backups.

This involves copying information stored on servers.

Backups are saved on separate hardware sometimes in separate locations.

Health & safety.

Issues to consider:

Bad posture.

Incorrect positioning of equipment.

The risk of repetitive strain injury (RSI).

Eye strain.

Consequences of breaching Health & Safety laws. Details here.

Organisational policies:

A business should have policies in place to ensure that all legal requirements are met.

In addition the use of communication should be consistent throughout the organisation.

Information ownership.

If you create information at work, then you should be responsible for it.

You need to protect your confidential information.

·       There are also ongoing operational issues:

The development of new systems to manage  information such as the use of 'The Cloud'.

The introduction of more complex software, including artificial intelligence (AI).

The need to train staff with new IT systems and costs of security, firewalls, training and updating systems.

Business continuance plans.

This means thinking about 'what if' scenarios and working out how a business can continue to operate.

You can find out Thorpe Park policies on some of these issues by clicking on the picture below.

Unit 4 Business Communication: Social Media

What is social media?

Websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.

What social media do you use?

Why do you use social media?

Would you share this video on your social media?

Why would you share it?

Do businesses use social media as a marketing tool?

Imagine you had the responsibility of building the Thorpe Park brand on social media 'back in the day'.

What social media channels would you focus on?

Would you have chosen Facebook?

What content would you have included?

Who would be a 'typical' Facebook user?

What style would you have chosen?

P4 Plan to take part in a selection interview

You will be producing a document aimed at newly appointed managers that describes how to plan for effective selection interviews.

The aim is to appoint the best candidate for the job vacancy.

Start by explaining why interviews are very useful as part of the selection process.

But, are there any potential problems surrounding the interview process?

Having a clear plan should make the process much more efficient and effective.

Stage 1: Pre-Interview

This would involve 'shortlisting'.

Explain what this means.

What criteria would be considered in this process?

What key features would be identified from the recruitment documentation?

Once candidates are selected, then the HR Department should choose which method of interview should be chosen.

What methods of interview can you think of?

The questions should then be decided on.

Employers can ask a mix of open and closed questions.
Why?

Will you include testing as part of the selection process?

What questions would never be asked and why?

The date and times of the interviews together with a suitable location would be chosen.

What would make an ideal location?

The interviewers would be identified and informed.

How would you let the candidates know about the interview arrangements?

What information would you communicate to them?

Stage 2: The interview

What would be an appropriate protocol for interviewers?

Consider being polite and professional.

What documentation would the interviewer bring with them?

Would a checklist be useful for the interviewer?

Why would all candidates be asked the same questions?

Stage 3: Post interview

Suitable candidates would be identified in order of the interviewers preferences.

References may be checked at this stage.

How would you make a formal job offer to a candidate?

If the candidate accepts what final checks may still have to be made?

What final communication would be made to the successful candidate?

What communication would be made to the unsuccessful candidates?
